Koo Wee Rup Community Hall benefits from the Federal Government’s $150,000 Stronger Communities Program

Thursday, 27 October 2016

Federal Member for Flinders Greg Hunt said he was thrilled to announce that Koo Wee Rup Hall and community centre will receive funding under Round Two of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program.

“A total of eleven local groups in the electorate received funding under Round Two, which is a great result for the community,” Mr Hunt said.

“I am delighted that the Koo Wee Rup Hall will receive $20,000 for the installation of two automated doors at the community centre entrance to provide all-abilities access and improve safety.”

Koo Wee Rup Community Centre Chairman Ray Brown said the project would provide great benefit to the community.

“At the moment, when we have the doors open everything gets blown in and it’s terribly frustrating. The new automated doors will provide an airlock to keep the hall protected from the elements,” Mr Brown said.

“It will also allow for all-abilities access to the community centre for people in wheelchairs or with other disabilities.

“The project involves relocating the main doors away from the road, so it will also improve safety for the many children who use the hall.”

The Cardinia Shire Council and the Koo Wee Rup Hall committee are also contributing to the cost of the project.

“It is great to have this community collaboration and financial contributions from all levels. The hall is always booked out with various groups and this refurbishment will add to the ambience of the place while improving safety and access for the whole community,” Mr Brown said.

Mr Hunt said community groups in the electorate were sharing in grants of $150,000 per year over two years through the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities program. The grants fund small capital projects that deliver social benefits to a variety of groups by supporting participation and contributing to the vibrancy of our local communities.
