Community grants boost the health and wellbeing of Hastings seniors

Senior citizens in Hastings will benefit from a Federal funding boost to a local veteran welfare organisation.
The 1066 Hastings Day Club has received a grant of $6,285 through the Veteran and Community Grants programme to allow members to take part in a series of bus trips and activities in order to help reduce social isolation.
Federal Member for Flinders Greg Hunt said the 1066 Hastings Day Club was a vital part of the veteran community in Hastings.
“This announcement is great news for our community and particularly those who rely on the Club for friendship, entertainment and social interaction,” Mr Hunt said.
1066 Hastings Day Club secretary Doreen Greve said the grant was welcomed by the club.
“These bus trips allow our members to get out and about and to see places they might never have been to before,” Mrs Greve said.
“Many of our members don’t have their own transport so this enables them to visit other areas safely with a great social group.
“It is a very friendly and social club and our activities are the highlight of the week for many people. This funding from the Federal Government allows us to continue to provide this service to the community.”
1066 Hastings Day Club provides a social outlet for veterans and seniors in the Hastings area and has members aged 60-90. The Club allows members to undertake a range of activities including bus trips, social gatherings and the opportunity to hear from guest speakers. New members are always welcome.
“The dedication and hard work of organisations such as the 1066 Hastings Day Club ensure veterans and their families receive services, support and opportunities in their local community,” Mr Hunt said.
Ex-service organisations, veteran groups and private organisations that contribute to the health and wellbeing of the veteran community are eligible to apply for funding through the Veteran and Community Grants program. For more information visit www.dva.gov.au/grants
