Applications close on February 19 for Local Drug Action Teams
Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, has urged organisations in the Flinders community to apply for up to $40,000 worth of funding as part of the Local Drug Action Team (LDAT) program.

The LDAT program provides funding for community groups to plan and execute programs that identify, respond to and prevent alcohol and other drug related harm.

Over the next three years, up to 220 LDATs will be established across the country to reduce the impact of drugs, with a particular focus on the drug ‘ice’.

Successful applicants will initially receive $10,000 to help them to develop a local action plan. Once the plan is finalised, LDAT’s can apply to receive up to an additional $30,000 in their first year (and then $40,000 a year) to support delivery of local activities.

“Community engagement is vital to reducing the harm that alcohol and other drugs have on individuals, their families and their communities,” Minister Hunt said. “That is why the Turnbull Government is committed to giving community groups the power and funding to help curb the devastating effects of illicit substance and alcohol abuse in their backyards.”

“I strongly encourage any interested groups to call the LDAT team on 03 9611 6100 to talk about how the LDAT program can help your local community.

“The LDAT team will talk through your ideas, how to implement a plan and best apply for the program.

“Applications for the program are assisted by the LDAT team and projects can be as simple as including a single event or ongoing programs within the community.”

Round three of the Local Drug Action Team program is open until February 19th.

Funding is available to most community groups, including local government, business associations, local traders, police, schools, family services support agencies, health services, education and employment services providers, sports and recreation groups and local not-for-profit organisations.

Any organisation with an interest in tackling drug and alcohol issues in their community can apply.

“Applicants are also more than welcome to contact my office directly to discuss their potential applications and how we can help,” Mr Hunt said.

If organisations would like to apply, they can visit and for further information, visit
