Local intersection made safer with $1.48 million through the road Black Spot Program
The intersection of Graydens Road and Boes Road in Hastings has been made safer with the installation of a new roundabout.

Federal Member for Flinders Greg Hunt was pleased to see the completed roundabout and meet some of the Mornington Peninsula Shire officers who worked on the project.

“The roundabout has replaced a very dangerous, high-traffic intersection, making it safer for all road users,” Mr Hunt said.

“This delivers on our plan to make roads safer, with $1.48 million provided to upgrade the intersection under the Federal Government’s road Black Spot Program,” Mr Hunt said.

“Residents have long been concerned with the state of this intersection, which provides a crucial link for residents in the Hastings area so it is fantastic to see it completed.”

Mornington Peninsula Shire Cerberus Ward Councillor Kate Roper said the Federal Government’s road funding was a vital contribution to improving roads across the Mornington Peninsula.

“These upgrades will allow motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy safer trips through this intersection,” Ms Roper said.

“We look forward to seeing other dangerous roads and intersections upgraded with assistance from this program.”

Mr Hunt said the Black Spot Program was crucial in saving lives and reducing the number and cost of road accidents.

“A recent evaluation of the program found that fatal and casualty crashes are reduced at treated sites by 30 per cent, equalling one life per year for every 84 projects,” Mr Hunt said.

“The $500 million national Black Spot Program targets dangerous roads to save lives and reduce road trauma, ensuring our local roads are safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.”

“Anyone can suggest an intersection or stretch of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade, and we strongly encourage all councils and individuals to submit their nominations.”
