Today’s reshuffle is a bureaucratic fix-up for a political stuff-up.
Last week the Prime Minister described Peter Garrett as a first class minister, this week, he’s the minister approving new uranium mines.
Today’s announcement confirms that this is a government without honour in the area of ministerial responsibility. This is an egregious failure of the Rudd Government.
Peter Garrett still remains a Cabinet minister, but now with more time to put his feet up.
This announcement comes in the wake of the Senate Inquiry which discovered today that neither the Prime Minister or his department, his Deputy, nor Minister Arbib made enquiries into the home insulation program following the first, second or third deaths.
The only reason Mr Rudd is taking this small step today is to divert attention from the extraordinary findings from today’s Senate Inquiry about his own negligence.
