Greg’s 500km Walk for Autism
Thank
you to all those who supported my 500km Walk for Autism around the Flinders
electorate.
It was a great pleasure to be able to present two autism charities with the
money raised by the walk. Abacus Learning Centre at Hastings and Autism Victoria
were presented with cheques totalling $35,864.
Close to 400 people joined me for various stages of the walk, which began
at Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula and finished at Cowes on Phillip
Island.
During the course of the walk we visited a total of 56 schools to raise awareness
of autism and talk to students about how they could be a friend to someone
with autism.
Along the way we met many brave and dedicated parents caring for children
with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and received donations from more than 100
individuals and organisations.
Donations came from local residents, schools, pre-schools, businesses, service
clubs, sporting clubs and philanthropic organisations. My heartfelt thanks
go to all those who donated.
The next step in the ongoing autism campaign is to push for bi-partisan support
for a National Autism Summit. This will investigate how best we can deliver
support to families caring for a family member with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
