A re-elected Morrison Government will invest $1 million to improve pedestrian safety on Frankston-Flinders Road in the township of Balnarring.
Liberal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, said the funding would be used for vital upgrades to local road crossings.
“Some of the busiest roads on the Mornington Peninsula all converge in Balnarring and it is important that pedestrians such as schoolchildren and seniors have the ability to cross these roads safely,” Minister Hunt said.
“Close to 600 community members recently signed a petition outlining that they saw a vital need for improved pedestrian safety, allowing locals to safely cross from one side of Frankston-Flinders Road to the other.
“This funding will help secure pedestrian operated signals and pedestrian refuges to improve safety for residents and visitors alike.”
“We have supported council in applying for funding at the state level; however this funding removes the delay of the Victorian Labor Government and will allow Council and VicRoads to get on with the job of improving safety on our roads.”
Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population, the Hon. Alan Tudge MP, said Mr Hunt was tireless in his advocacy for improved infrastructure on the Mornington Peninsula.
“In order to get investment into roads such as here in Balnarring, locals need a Member of Parliament that will fight for them. That is what the Mornington Peninsula has with Greg Hunt,” Minister Tudge said.
“He has worked tirelessly for the local community, delivering the infrastructure funding that has been ignored by the Labor Government in Victoria.
“Greg has not only been able to secure funding for pedestrian safety in Balnarring, but delivered $75 million funding for improving the Jetty Road/Mornington Peninsula Freeway intersection in Rosebud, as well as $10 million to improve the intersections of Forest Drive and Uralla Road on the Nepean Highway in Mount Martha as part of the 2019/20 Budget.
“These are different to an election promise; this funding has been secured as a decision of government. However, if Labor form government, they could potentially cancel these vital infrastructure projects, just as they cancelled the East West Link. A Liberal Government guarantees these projects will be delivered for the local community.
“Only a Morrison Government can deliver funding for projects such as this, while providing the sensible economic management to deliver a strong economy and a Budget surplus.”
