Five new fixed wireless towers in the electorate of Flinders have recently been switched on or will be switched on by the end of February 2018.
The five towers will provide fixed wireless services to over 1200 properties in Somerville and Dromana.
Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, said the new towers would provide an improved user experience to the community.
“Fixed wireless has the highest satisfaction rating on the nbn and offers speeds of up to 50 megabits a second download and 20 megabits a second upload,” Mr Hunt said.
“This technology will help families keep up with the demands of modern life and give local businesses the ability to compete in the digital world.
“Residents and businesses in Flinders can talk to retail broadband providers about the services available in our area and how to sign up.”
Constituents that will be serviced by these towers will receive a letter in the mail from nbn providing all the information they need ahead of making the switch.
A fixed wireless connection utilises data transmitted over radio signals to connect a premises to the network.
This connection is typically used in circumstances where the distance between premises can be many kilometres.
