I welcome the opening of $250,000 in Commonwealth funded grants for Landcare and community groups in the Port Phillip and Western Port region.
The funds are part of the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme and are available through the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority’s community grants scheme, which is now open for applications.
These grants are a great boost for Landcare and an excellent example of how the National Landcare Programme is helping communities, landholders and farmers to look after our environmental assets and sustainable farming systems.
I commend the Port Phillip & Westernport CMA, which has been quick to identify the opportunity to introduce these community grants using Australian Government funds to better support Landcare.
The grants will assist Landcare to carry out local, grassroots environmental projects.
Every year for the next four years, $250,000 in grants will be available for groups in this region, providing a total of $1 million directly to great local projects.
I urge Landcare and community groups across Port Phillip Bay and Western Port Bay to take advantage of this initiative.
Guidelines and applications are available from www.ppwcma.vic.gov.au. Enquiries can be directed to community.grants@ppwcma.vic.gov.au or the PPWCMA on 03 8781 7900.
Applications for the Port Phillip & Westernport CMA Community Grants close October 12.
