The Turnbull Government welcomes the announcement that construction will start in late April on the $400 million White Rock 175 MW wind project located west of Glen Innes.
The White Rocks wind farm will create more than 200 jobs during construction and between10-15 full time jobs afterwards.
The White Rocks wind farm is an important project not just for the New England region, but also for the development of renewable energy in Australia. It will be larger than any wind farm currently operating in New South Wales.
It is a major boost for the sector and shows what is possible with innovative financing structures.
The proponents have made clear that the increased certainty around the Renewable Energy Target was an important factor in making this investment decision.
Since coming into government, the Coalition has been focused on jobs and stability for the renewable industry by fixing the problems which were created by Labor with the support of Tony Windsor.
Australia’s Renewable Energy Target will see 23.5 per cent of electricity coming from renewable sources by 2020. That’s a doubling of large scale renewable energy supported by the RET over the next five years.
