Motorists in Somerville will benefit under a re-elected Turnbull Coalition Government with a $44,000 investment to complete roadside safety upgrades.
The funding will be used to install raised reflective pavement markers and upgrade guideposts on Tyabb-Tooradin Road between Bungower Road and Bembridge Road.
These upgrades will ensure motorists, pedestrians and cyclists enjoy safer trips on our roads.
As part of the Turnbull Coalition Team, I have long-been committed to fighting for, and delivering funding to improve safety on local roads.
This particular stretch of road has been recognised by residents as a dangerous road, prone to accidents and many concerned residents have told me of their own near misses in this area.
I look forward to seeing these upgrades carried out and will also be advocating for additional funding to support further upgrades for our local roads.
The Coalition is committed to improving regional roads that have a history of crashes causing death or serious injury. We have committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme from 2014-15 to 2018-19, including an additional $200 million over two years from 2015-16 to improve road safety and infrastructure across the country.
We have also provided record funding for the Roads to Recovery Programme to support local councils to upgrade and maintain the local road network. In 2016-17 councils across the Flinders electorate will receive more than $9.3 million.
