Residents from the Mornington Peninsula, Bass Coast, Western Port, Cardinia and Casey are all set to benefit from the Turnbull Government is sticking to its plan to build a stronger economy, the Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP said today.
“Under the Government’s economic plan jobs are being created, investment is rising and the budget is strengthening. This means that we can continue to guarantee the essential services Australians rely on.”
“Our tax relief plan will encourage and reward hard working Australians. Nearly 68,000 taxpayers from all around the electorate of Flinders will benefit under our plan to reduce cost pressures on household budgets.” Mr Hunt said.
“There is also great news for the more than 19,000 small businesses in my electorate, with the $20,000 instant asset write-off continuing for another year, helping small business invest in new equipment. This is on top of legislated tax cuts for small and medium businesses that are helping them to grow, create more jobs and pay higher wages.”
The Turnbull Government’s $75 billion rolling infrastructure plan will continue building the roads, rail and airport networks Australia needs to strengthen the economy, bust congestion in our cities and make rural roads safer.
“The benefits of the Turnbull Government’s infrastructure investment will be seen firsthand by Flinders residents with the $225 million duplication and electrification of the rail line from Frankston to Baxter.
“This extension will mean better connectivity of Victoria’s rail and road infrastructure, less congestion on our local roads and help ensure Australian workers get home quicker and safer.”
“The Budget will also see $200 million allocated to deliver a third round of the Building Better Regions Fund”
“This fund helped to deliver the Lang Lang Community Recreation Precinct Pavilion and a new round means more opportunities for significant local investment.
“We are guaranteeing the essential services that local families rely on, by increasing total health and hospitals funding by 30%, delivering a 50% average increase per student in fair, real needs based school funding over the decade, and more child care support to those families who need it most,” Mr Hunt said.
“As part of the Turnbull Government’s commitment to guaranteeing essential services, our More Choices for a Longer Life plan will help older Australians live healthy and connected lives with increased financial and skills support and 14,000 more home care places.
“This plan ensures better quality of care for the more than 35,000 people aged over 65 and their families in the electorate, allowing them to live longer, happier and healthier lives.
“This is also a Budget that aims to increase Australians ability to stay fit and healthy.
“The Turnbull Government will invest $230 million over the next five years to get more Australians more active, more often.
“This investment sets out several initiatives, including $29.7 million allocated to invest into community sport infrastructure across Australia.
“Grants of up to $500,000 will be available for local sporting clubs all around the electorate to improve their infrastructure, including the installation of lighting towers and construction of expanded change room facilities.
“There is also significant investment in our future with a 56% increase in the Local Sporting Champions program, with 3,000 additional places now available for Australia’s next generation of athletes.
“In the current allocation year, 40 amazing young athletes from my electorate have received grants across 19 sports and this increase means more young Australians can receive funding to help them pursue their sporting dreams.
“Our plan for a stronger economy benefits all Australians. After record jobs growth, the proportion of working age Australians now dependent on welfare has fallen to 15.1 per cent – the lowest level in over twenty five years.
“We are also continuing to boost welfare compliance and targeting to help get welfare spending under control while ensuring everyone pays their fair share of tax.
“Our plan for a stronger economy means that Australians can plan for their future with confidence.”
