I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr David Sharpe as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA).
Prior to accepting this position Mr Sharpe’s career background includes 10 years with the Australian Federal Police leading its National Protection Operations; Serious and Organised Crime Group; Counter Terrorism Unit; and Close Operations Support Group.
Mr Sharpe also spent two years as General Manager of the Canberra Raiders.
The integrity of Australian sport is important to all Australians and ASADA’s deterrence, detection and enforcement role to prevent doping in sport is critical.
Mr Sharpe’s experience in senior leadership roles in law enforcement and sports administration will ensure ASADA continues to play its vital role in protecting the integrity of Australian sport.
As we get closer to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, we all want to see athletes do well and achieve their potential but we also want to continue to be confident that all competition is clean and fair.
Mr Sharpe brings the qualities and expertise required to steer ASADA’s ongoing work to protect the integrity of sport and the health of Australian athletes.
Mr Sharpe’s appointment is for 5 years and he is expected to start in mid-September.
I would like to congratulate Mr Sharpe on his appointment and I look forward to working with him in his new role.
