It was a pleasure to join boys at Lord Somers Camp last week as they supported each other through a gruelling cross country course.
The course marked the conclusion of a week of activities for the 100 boys who travelled from across the state to take part in the camp.
I joined the boys on their cross country course, which finished on Somers beach.
It was a tough 3.8km run and I think I was as relieved as they were to cross the finish line.
Lord Somers Camp has been part of the local community since 1929. The philosophy behind the organisation is to create a stronger, more inclusive society through service to others.
The boys’ camp was followed this week by a girls’ camp, promoting the same values of leadership, friendship and overcoming hurdles through teamwork.
The values these young men and women learn at the camp will help shape their lives and lay the foundations for them to become the leaders of tomorrow.
It is terrific that the Lord Somers Camp offers this tremendous opportunity to young people.
Over the years, the camp has become a well-known and well-loved part of the community and it is great to be able to share these moments with the boys, camp leaders and the camp chief.
