A re-elected Turnbull Government will invest $100,000 to upgrade the Marine Discovery Centre under the Improving Your Local Parks and Environment Programme.
Federal Member for Hindmarsh Matt Williams was joined by Minister for the Environment, Greg Hunt today to announce a re-elected Coalition Government would deliver $100,000 to the Marine Discovery Centre to improve the learning experience of the thousands of children who visit the centre each year.
“The commitment from the Turnbull Government will provide a much needed upgrade to interactive models and facilities, enabling a 21st Century learning experience for Primary School children who visit the centre,” Mr Williams said.
“The Marine Discovery Centre enjoys very good community support and during it’s almost 20 years history has helped teach thousands of children about the importance of our environment and particularly our coast and oceans.”
The Improving Your Local Parks and Environment Programme will support local councils, community groups, environment groups and others to undertake revitalisation, maintenance, management and improvement works at local parks, nature reserves, rivers, coastal areas and community facilities, and build awareness to reduce littering and marine debris.
“The Marine Discovery Centre gets great support from the community with dozens of volunteers supporting the Marine Discovery Centre each year and this funding will support the centre to better engage with those who want to help,” Minister Hunt said.
“Matt Williams is a great local member who recognises the benefits of the looking after and improving the local environment. He should be congratulated for advocating so strongly for the Marine Discovery Centre.”
Local parks and green spaces make our communities more liveable, healthy and sustainable.
The Coalition has a strong suite of practical environment policies that improve local environments and deliver tangible results.
This includes the Green Army, with 1,145 projects announced nationally and more than 700 projects already rolled out, and planting 20 million trees to green our communities and provide habitat for threatened species.
