A re-elected Turnbull Government will invest $2 million to deliver a new purpose-built athletics track for the Mornington Peninsula.
The project will:
• help deliver a purpose-built International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) compliant and accredited athletics facility for the Mornington Peninsula;
• assist in construction of a synthetic 400-metre circular track, facilities for all field athletics events, clubrooms, storage facilities, lighting and spectator viewing facilities; and
• create a safer standard of playing facilities for local children to train and compete on all year round.
“Community members have been calling for a new track for many years,” said Mr Chris Crewther, the Liberal candidate for Dunkley.
“The #whereisourtrack petition has received strong local support and I look forward to us all saying #hereisourtrack.
“I thank the parents and friends of Mornington Little Athletics Centre for their passionate commitment to this important project which will be welcomed especially in the year of the Olympics,” Mr Crewther said.
Member for Flinders and Minister for the Environment, Greg Hunt, said that the facility will be great to keep the families of the Peninsula active.
“This project will boost junior athletics participation rates across the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port,” Minister Hunt said.
