A re-elected Coalition Government will deliver a new Green Army project for Swan and Canning riverbanks and local national parks.
The Green Army provides opportunities for young Australians aged 17-24 years to gain training and experience which will assist them in the future to find jobs, while generating real benefits for the local environment.
The project will:
· Rejuvenate John Forest National Park, Beelu National Park, and Kalamunda National Park, and work to restore riverbanks of the Swan and Canning Rivers
· Work to protect local threatened species, including Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo
· Restore local riverbanks and parks through the removal of environmental weeds and invasive species, and replacing with native species
“These projects will protect the local environment, improve our national parks and work to defend our threatened species’ habitats,” Mr Wyatt said.
“The Green Army team will work in partnership with local community groups to deliver the projects.”
The Green Army has been a huge success with 1145 projects announced nationally and more than 700 projects already rolled out in urban, rural and remote areas.
In Hasluck, seven Green Army projects have already been rolled-out – and 66 projects are completed or underway across Western Australia.
In addition this, the Turnbull Government will deliver $150,000 towards the planting of 50,000 trees in Wattle Grove under the 20 Million Trees Programme.
“The Government will work with Men of the Trees Inc. and other local community groups in the roll out of this project,” Mr Wyatt said.
The Green Army is a hands-on, practical environmental action programme that supports local communities to undertake environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia while offering participants valuable skills and practical experience.
“We will work with local government, local residents and community groups in the design of the projects,” Minister Hunt said.
“Ken Wyatt is a great local member who regularly talks to me about the environmental needs of his local community. He should be congratulated for advocating for these projects so strongly.”
The Green Army programme not only benefits the environment, but also provides participants with skills and experience which will support them in finding jobs or further education.
