The Morrison Government is offering grants of up to $20,000 for schools and organisations to give our kids science opportunities in Australia and abroad.
The Sponsorship Grants for Student Science Engagement and International Competitions program is now open for applications.
Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, said the Grants would allow schoolchildren from across the Mornington Peninsula to pursue their STEM goals.
“The Morrison Government is providing opportunities and encouraging students to build their skills and to pursue STEM studies and careers,” Minister Hunt said.
“We want more young Australians to get the STEM foundation that will allow them to be part of future scientific and technological breakthroughs, and will also set them up for the jobs of the future.
“I have met with many incredible local schoolchildren looking to continue down the STEM path and I encourage all schools on the Mornington Peninsula to put in applications for their students.”
Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews said the initiative supported young Australians’ participation in conferences, competitions and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) events.
“This is the fourth year the Government has offered funding under this program and it’s proven to be highly popular, giving many students life-changing STEM experiences,” Minister Andrews said.
“Last year we helped three students from Brisbane travel to Silicon Valley in the US to present at the Technovation Global Pitch, 11 students from Sydney to attend Camp Kennedy Space Centre in the US, and 16 primary students from Mackay to attend the Sydney Science Festival.”
Over the life of the program, more than $4 million has been awarded, supporting students to attend over 440 STEM-related events.
The program allocates up to $1.6 million each year via grants of between $1000 and $20,000. Applications are capped at $1500 per student for domestic, and $5000 per student for overseas competitions and events.
The grants are open from 5 September 2019 and funding is allocated to eligible applicants on a first-in basis.
