Increased support for Type 1 diabetics in Western Australia
A re-elected Morrison Government will invest $930,000 to support Western Australians with diabetes through the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre.
Located in Stirling, the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre offers clinical care alongside wraparound peer, practical and social support for people with Type 1 of all ages and their families.
The funding, to be provided over three years, will help fund two full time staff members for the Centre, allowing for increased support for the Type 1 diabetes community.
Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said Centres like the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre show that those with the condition do not need to let it define them.
“The health outcomes for people with Type 1 diabetes vary enormously,” Minister Hunt said.
“At its worst, Type 1 diabetes leads to devastating complications, but when managed effectively, people with Type 1 diabetes can lead long, healthy, fulfilling lives.”
“Thanks to a strong economy, we are able to support groups like the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre to help people manage all aspects of their condition, as well as make Continuous Glucose Monitoring available to all Type 1 diabetics across the nation.”
“A re-elected Morrison Government will also invest over $273 million to expand eligibility for the Continuous Glucose Monitoring Initiative from 1 July 2022 to an additional 71,000 people with Type 1 diabetes.”
“This means that every Australian with Type 1 diabetes will have access to a potentially life-saving Continuous Glucose Monitoring device, saving them thousands of dollars per year.”
Liberal candidate for Cowan Vince Connelly welcomed the announcement, saying: “the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre amazing work, supporting over 2000 families impacted by diabetes.”
“For so many Australians, learning they have Type 1 diabetes is met with not just health questions, but a transition to the requirements of managing their condition. This can have a profound impact not just on them, but their families as well.”
“The Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre ensures there is not just support for patients, but for their families too, helping them all to move forward together in their management of diabetes care.”
“This funding will help them to expand their model and support more families across Cowan and across our state.”
The Morrison Government continues to invest into our healthcare system, to ensure all Australians have access to the services they rely on.
This is a stark contrast to Mr Albanese and Labor, who when last in Government stopped listing essential medicines and treatments on the PBS, slashed funding for mental health support and tried to rip funding out of medical research.
Only the Liberals can be trusted to keep the economy strong and secure a stronger future for Western Australians.
