Once again Labor is attacking the 13 million Australians with private health cover – with confirmation today that they want to slash the private health insurance rebate.
Every Australian family that cares about their health should be terrified of what a Labor Government would mean to them.
Labor’s approach will drive up premiums, push people out of private health insurance and onto the public health system and increase waiting lists.
Labor has always hated private health insurance. In Government, Labor cut $4 billion from the rebate and means tested it.
Tanya Plibersek has even gloated about slashing private health insurance when she was Health Minister:
“Every promise I made I paid for. How did I pay for it? I paid for it by targeting private health insurance.” (Tanya Plibersek – 4 April 2016 – Press Conference)
The Coalition is committed to private health insurance and we’re committed to supporting the 13 million Australians that have taken out cover.
We recognise that every dollar matters to families – and that’s why we’re continuing to invest around $6 billion every year in the rebate.
We are working hard to ensure private health insurance is value for money and it includes services which people, particularly young people, want.
Labor on the other hand is trying to force Australians out of private health insurance.
Labor can’t be trusted when it comes to private health insurance. They simply see it as a golden goose and want to get their hands on the cash – to the detriment of Australian families.
