A re-elected Liberal National Government will invest $300,000 into the design of a business case for the Hinterland Environmental Water Scheme (HEWS).
The Scheme proposes redirecting Class A treated water from the current Gunnamatta outflow to Hinterland farmers, providing the potential to enhance agricultural production.
Liberal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, said the funding would assist locals in assessing the feasibility of the full project.
“This project has the potential to not only provide Class A treated water for our local farmers, but increased firefighting capacities in the Mornington Hinterland during the summer months.”
“A project such as this requires a bipartisan approach across all levels of Government and I am proud that the Liberal National Government will deliver $300,000 towardsthe business case.
“I hope and call on both the Shire and State Governments to match this funding in line with their previous statements.”
