Young athletes are urged to apply for grants of $500 to help with the costs of competing in state and national events.
The Local Sporting Champions grants program is an Australian Government initiative designed to support young people participating in state, national and international sporting championships as an athlete, coach or official.
The grants contribute to the cost of travel, accommodation, equipment and uniforms associated with competing at an event.
Playing sport is synonymous with the Australian way of life and it is excellent to see so many people of varying ages and sporting aspirations actively involved in their communities.
It is good to be able to nurture our talented local athletes and assist them in fulfilling their sporting ambitions.
The costs associated with competing at sporting events can be significant. These grants help to ease the financial burden, making it easier for young athletes to go further in their chosen sporting field.
I encourage young athletes, competing in events across the country, to apply for the grants.
Applications for this funding round close June 30. All applications should be received before the competition start date. Visit www.ausport.gov.au for more information.
Applicants must be turning 12-18 in the year of the competition.
