I am pleased to announce that the Southern Peninsula Veterans Centre has received a Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) grant of $53, 4322.
This grant will enable the centre to continue its day-to-day operations, providing veterans and returned services members with practical and emotional support.
The team at the Southern Peninsula Veterans Centre does a fantastic job in helping returned service members get back on their feet and assimilate back into their lives.
With only a small team, comprising one paid staff member and eight volunteers, the centre assists hundreds of returned services members in the community.
They provide practical help such as assistance with paperwork related to illness and injury as well as emotional support, which can be as simple as having someone to talk to.
The BEST grants provide funding to organisations to support veterans and war widows.
The Government has provided an additional $1million in funding for BEST grants this year, bringing the total amount of funding this round to $3.772 million.
The Southern Peninsula Veterans Centre is located at the Rosebud RSL and is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-4pm. It also operates an outpost at Cerberus for serving defence personal.
