I am delighted to announce that residents on the Mornington Peninsula will soon be able to undergo trials to treat cancer and rare diseases closer to home thanks to the Morrison Government.
The Liberal National Government is providing almost $25 million so Australians with cancer and rare diseases have access to clinical trials no matter where they live including regional and remote Victoria.
Regional patients don’t always gain early access to clinical trials that bring breakthroughs in medical treatment that can be life-saving. This will now change for Peninsula residents.
Our Government will provide funding support to the Alfred Hospital’s Australian Clinical Trials Network’s TrialHub which will establish a regional base in Rosebud Hospital.
Indeed Rosebud Hospital has been selected as one of the first hospitals in Victoria to partner with the TrialHub
This will boost opportunities for patients across the Mornington Peninsula to participate in clinical trials of new treatments and other interventions as close as possible to their homes, regardless of where they live.
The program will create partnerships with regional hospitals like Rosebud to expand the reach and participation in clinical trials allowing patients from all over Victoria access potentially life-saving treatments.
The Rosebud clinical trial centre will initially focus on rare cancers and other rare diseases, prostate cancer and melanoma.
This program is a collaboration between Monash University and Alfred Health to boost the number of available clinical trials in Victoria.
Clinical trials are the vehicles through which advances in medical science are translated to the benefit of patients and their communities, providing essential conduits from scientific discovery to improved health outcomes for all.
This investment is through our Government’s Community Health and Hospitals Program.
Established in 2018, the Liberal National Government’s $1.25 billion Community Health and Hospitals Fund supports:
- Specialist hospital services such as cancer treatment, rural health and hospital infrastructure
- Drug and alcohol treatment
- Preventive, primary and chronic disease management
- Mental health
The Government’s strong economic management ensures the continued record investment into vital essential services including medical research, life-saving medicines, Medicare and hospitals.
