The Turnbull Government is proud to be supporting clinical trials into new life-changing treatments and to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
And today – as part of the Big Freeze 3 fundraising event at the MCG – we’re calling on Australians to dig deep.
For every dollar donated to the Cure for MND Foundation, the Turnbull Government will match donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2 million.
This will be used for dedicated clinical trials, which will test whether existing medicines can improve the treatment and outcomes for these patients.
MND remains a mystery – we don’t know what causes it, or how to prevent, treat or cure it.
In MND, the nerve cells controlling the muscles that allow people to move, speak, swallow and breathe fail to work normally and eventually die, leaving the muscles to gradually weaken and waste.
Every day, two people are diagnosed with MND and two people die from the condition, and the number of people with the condition has doubled over the past 20 years.
Research and clinical trials offer the best hope of a medical breakthrough that will change or save their lives.
The Turnbull Government’s Medical Research Future Fund was specifically created to support health and medical research and innovation that improves the health and wellbeing of Australians.
I encourage Australians to join with the Turnbull Government and donate as much as they can, so that together, we can support research into viable treatments and cures for Motor Neurone Disease.
