The Turnbull Government is offering grants of $2,000 to $20,000 for individuals, community groups, universities, research institutions and other organisations interested in holding an event as part of National Science Week 2017.
National Science Week will run 12 to 20 August 2017 and is a chance for all Australians to get involved in science. It’s an annual celebration of science and technology, attracting more than a million participants each year.
A total of up to $500,000 is available nationwide through the National Science Week Grants for projects that promote and encourage interest in science, engineering, technology and innovation, and communicate their relevance in everyday life.
National Science Week activities like exhibitions, expos and workshops are designed to get the community talking about science. They get individuals and the community involved by making science accessible to all.
It is also an important annual opportunity to showcase the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge.
Events funded by National Science Week Grants in 2016 included a project that brought kids into the University of Adelaide’s School of Medicine to learn about neuroscience, and the Indigenous Science Experience in Redfern.
Regional Australia joined in with science films and Science in the Pub on the Sapphire Coast in NSW, the Arid Lands Eco-Fair in Alice Springs and Tinkering Workshops in Bendigo.
Western Australia’s citizen scientists were able to get involved in a Pantry Blitz, where people across the state helped keep the state free from harmful exotic pests by trapping and recording information on insects in their pantry.
National Science Week is designed to engage and excite everyone, with events, activities, talks and shows for every age group.
