The Victorian Government’s commitment of $2.2 million for a new health centre on Phillip Island is welcome.
This is the crucial first step in the process of securing better health and medical services for island residents.
It will provide Phillip Island with a brand new, purpose-built public health facility linked to Wonthaggi Hospital.
I also welcome the acknowledgement by Victorian Health Minister David Davis that this new facility would ‘guarantee critical health services on Phillip Island into the long term and build capacity for expanded delivery of services’.
I urge the community to continue to work together so that we can build on this foundation and maximise the opportunities it presents.
This new centre will provide a hub for future public health services on the island.
The task now is to work with the community, the Warley Trust advisory group and the State Government on how best to integrate the Commonwealth’s $2.5 million of funding with the State funding to provide additional health and medical services.
