In good news for the southern Mornington Peninsula, the Victorian Government has joined the Morrison Government in providing funding for the Southern Peninsula Youth Mental Health Hub.
Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP, welcomed the investment from the Victorian Government following two years of community campaigning following Commonwealth investment.
“As part of the 2019/20 Budget, I was proud to secure $1.5 million for the construction of a youth mental health hub on the southern Mornington Peninsula,” Minister Hunt said.
“Following two years of work by the Mornington Peninsula Shire on business cases, preferred site consultation and work with myself and the community, I am pleased the Victorian Government has finally come to the table with a financial commitment.”
“Thanks to investment from the Morrison Government, we continue to see improved mental health support across the Peninsula, including headspace services in Rosebud and Hastings, a wellness pavilion at Rosebud Secondary College and the work of Jimmy’s Youth Wellbeing Sanctuary.”
The first stage of formal planning will be undertaken before 2022 with further community and stakeholder consultation set to take place later this year.
The Mornington Peninsula Shire anticipate the two-year build will commence late-2022, with a construction completion date in late-2024.
