MEDIA RELEASE
Rosebud’s Yawa aquatic centre is causing big waves with the southern Mornington Peninsula community and beyond.
Since Yawa first opened its doors on the 9th of July 2021, it has seen:
- 3,600 active members join, 44% ahead of the Mornington Peninsula Shire target,
- Over 2,000 active swim school enrolments, 57% ahead of target and
- Over 200 outdoor personal training sessions, following Victorian COVID restrictions
From its reopening following the latest Victorian lockdown on October 30 to 23 November, Yawa has seen over 19,000 attendees, averaging ~842 attendees per day with 92% of members returning post-lockdown.
Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon. Greg Hunt MP said that these figures show just how much Yawa has brought the Peninsula community together.
“Attending the official opening ceremony last Monday was heart-warming, seeing the facility finally complete and welcoming so many families and friends to come together,” Minister Hunt said.
“I was proud to be part of the Morrison Government, which was able to provide $5 million in funding for such a great project – and I am so excited to see the community take advantage of what Yawa has to offer now and into the future.”
“This project has been the culmination of years of work by locals on the Peninsula and the Shire, and I congratulate all those who worked so hard, for so long, to make this project a reality.”
