I am visiting Boneo Primary School today to show my support to have the speed limit reduced along Boneo Road.
We have already seen a fatal accident outside the school in September this year, which was sadly witnessed by pupils at the school.
The 100km speed limit is not appropriate where you have young children in the school grounds so close to the road.
I have written to VicRoads, appealing to them to reduce the speed limit to 70km so that the school zone will be subject to a 40km speed limit during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Having young children myself, I know how easy it is for them to run out onto the road without looking. It only takes one driver not to be fully concentrating to have a serious accident.
The school community is extremely worried about children’s safety and wants to see the speed limit reduced before a child is injured.
It is a simple measure that would put many parents’ minds at ease.
As school children enjoy the last week of the school term, I want to send a clear message to VicRoads that we want all the pupils of Boneo Primary School to come back to a safer road next year.
