A re-elected Coalition Government will deliver a new Green Army project for the Phillip Island and San Remo region.
I was delighted to visit San Remo on Friday to announce the project.
The project will focus on restoring and rehabilitating the habitat for the Eastern Barred Bandicoot on Churchill Island and preparation of other areas on Phillip Island for their future release.
The project will also include work to remove invasive species and replant native species on the San Remo Foreshore.
This project will help to ensure that the local environment is protected and the habitat for some of our threatened species is strengthened.
The Green Army team will work in partnership with local community groups to design and deliver the project.
The Green Army has been a huge success with 1145 projects announced nationally and more than 700 projects already rolled out in urban, rural and remote areas.
In the Flinders electorate, we have more than 18 Green Army projects that have been completed, are underway or have been committed.
The Green Army is a hands-on, practical environmental action program that supports local communities to undertake environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia while offering participants valuable skills and practical experience.
The program provides opportunities for young Australians aged 17-24 years to gain training and experience that will assist them in the future to find jobs, while generating real benefits for the local environment.
The Green Army program not only benefits the environment, but also provides participants with skills and experience that will support them in finding jobs or furthering their education.
