Flinders MP Greg Hunt met with Crib Point CFA officers and volunteers at HMAS Cerberus recently to inspect the site for its new headquarters.
Mr Hunt said the new partnership would be mutually beneficial.
“I am delighted that the Crib Point CFA has been provided with land on the site of the HMAS Cerberus defence base for the development of a new fire station,” Mr Hunt said.
“Members from Crib Point CFA approached me two years ago about their concerns for the dilapidated fire station and the urgent need for upgraded facilities.
“We worked closely with the CFA and the Department of Defence to secure land at Cerberus on a peppercorn lease.”
“Although it may take some years, this is the first step in securing funds to build a new fire station on the site.”
Mr Hunt said it was a win for residents of Crib Point and the surrounding area.
“The recent fires highlighted the vital work of the Crib Point CFA and the protection they provide for the community.”
Mr Hunt said he looked forward to continuing to work with the Crib Point community towards the creation of a new fire station.
South East Region CFA Operations Officer Troy Thornton said he was excited about the partnership between HMAS Cerberus and the Crib Point CFA and the opportunities it would provide.
“Crib Point CFA is in desperate need of a new fire station and this is the first step towards making this happen,” he said.
