It is incredibly rewarding to give back to the community and now there is an easy way for volunteers to connect with local community organisations in need of help.
I have partnered with DoSomething!, which connects willing volunteers to community groups in their area. I encourage local community groups and volunteers to get on board.
As a volunteer, all you need to do is type your postcode or suburb into http://www.dosomethingnearyou.com.au/Greg-Hunt and find a group that suits you.
Volunteers can sign up for the Sorrento SES, help out the Mornington Peninsula Library Service, assist at Holy Trinity Op Shop in Hastings, volunteer for the Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Meals on Wheels service, join the Rotary Club of Hastings Western Port, support the Tyabb Junior Football Club or help out with countless other community groups.
There are so many local organisations doing terrific things to help others and this is an opportunity for anyone who wants to give back to the community.
I recently visited Abacus Learning Centre in Hastings, which is seeking assistance with gardening, painting, maintenance, cleaning and repairing toys.
Abacus is a not-for-profit organisation that provides intensive early intervention for children with autism. Voluntary assistance helps Abacus keep the cost of services as low as possible, allowing more families to access this vital service.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of these community organisations s and many groups are desperately seeking additional volunteers to allow them to continue their good work.
By giving back and volunteering, we can make our communities stronger and happier places to live.
Take this opportunity to Do Something Near You and make a difference.
Community groups and not-for-profit organisations can register to be included on the website at no cost to their organisation at http://www.dosomethingnearyou.com.au/register-organisation
