I am delighted that the Australian Government is providing $10 million to develop the Casey Cultural Precinct, now known as Bunjil Place.
This is a terrific outcome for the community and I look forward to seeing Bunjil Place inject a new cultural hub for the community to enjoy.
In particular, I have been working with the City of Casey to develop a regional arm of either the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, National Museum of Australia or Museum Victoria at Bunjil Place.
These institutions have a large part of their collection packed away at any given time and having items displayed at Bunjil Place would give local residents the chance to experience these exhibits closer to home.
I believe this is a brilliant way to utilise what will be a world-class building to rival the likes of Federation Square.
I will continue to work with all parties to make this vision a reality.
Bunjil Place will provide a community gathering place where all members of the community can participate in the arts, attend events and engage in other social activities.
The $1 billion, National Stronger Regions Fund is helping to enhance economic growth in our regional areas.
It will have a flow-on effect to employment, tourism and provide a major economic injection to regions like Casey both during the construction phase and upon completion of the facilities.
Applications for Round Two of the National Stronger Regions Fund will open on 15 May.
Local government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply for funding.
