I encourage local residents and environment groups to comment on the draft terms of reference for the newly created role of Threatened Species Commissioner.
I have established the role of Australia’s first Threatened Species Commissioner to address the growing number of native flora and fauna faced with extinction.
The Commissioner will bring a new national focus to conservation efforts through practical action to ensure investment is better targeted, better coordinated and more effective.
I look forward to working with the Commissioner to provide greater protection for our threatened flora and fauna.
Residents are invited to comment on the draft terms of reference, which identify the potential roles and responsibilities for the position.
Feedback received during the public comment period will be considered in finalising this document.
Comments can be emailed to recoveryplans@environment.gov.au or sent via post to The Director, Terrestrial Species Conservation Section, Department of the Environment GPO Box 787, Canberra ACT 2601.
Feedback must be received by 5pm, April 18.
