Motorists on Phillip Island will benefit under a re-elected Turnbull Coalition Government with $275,000 for the construction of a new roundabout in Cape Woolamai.
“Phillip Island residents have long been concerned with the state of this intersection, which provides a crucial link for residents and tourists to Cape Woolamai,” Mr Hunt said.
“Upgrades to the Woolamai Beach and Phillip Island Tourist Road intersection will ensure motorists, pedestrians and cyclists enjoy safer trips on our roads.”
“I am delighted that the Coalition has been able to invest $275,000 in upgrading this
intersection, by injecting funds where it is most needed.”
“Recently we were shaken by a multi-car collision, which resulted in several people
being seriously injured. This is one of many incidents that have occurred at this
particular intersection.”
“As a result of the accident, residents and tourists were unable to travel in either
direction for seven hours.”
The intersection has been identified by VicRoads as a priority for the greater Phillip Island region. Bass Coast Shire Council has also strongly advocated for the improvement
of this road black spot.
“This commitment is part of the Coalition’s record $50 billion Infrastructure
Investment Programme which is generating tens of thousands of jobs, easing
congestion, increasing capacity and improving safety for all road users.”
